Welcome to the Scriptwriter Showdown!

  1. Contestants will have 1 hour to write a short scene based on a prompt to be provided at the beginning of the event.
  2. The audience members will be observing the writers write while chatting amongst themselves.
  3. Each contestant will be seated at a featured position and their screens will be projected as they embark on their writing process.
  4. Everyone else will be witnessing the creative process unfold amongst the contestants!
  5. Once the hour is over, the judges and audience will vote for the top 3 scripts and then we’ll launch into our table read with our panel of actors to perform a table read of the scenes.

  6. Once all of the scenes have been presented, attendees and judges will be asked to vote on their favorites to decide on a winner!

Our mission:

Through our monthly scriptwriting events, we aim build a community for the writers, judges, actors, and audience. We hope to create a space where people can connect, network, and learn from each other.

Part of our overall mission at Filmocracy is to shine a light on the underrepresented voices throughout the film industry. For the Scriptwriter Showdown, we have hosted our competitions in honor of Black History Month and Women’s History Month. We will continue to provide our platform to underrepresented groups and hope to provide them with exposure to the greater film community.
